Accessible Performances

We offer a range of Accessible Performances. If you would like to use any of the following services, please let us know at time of booking. Call 01236 732887 or email our Box Office team at boxoffice@lanternhousearts.org.

Please do make yourself known to the Front of House team on arrival, and our friendly staff will be happy to help.

Audio Described Performances

Audio description is a way of communicating the visual elements of a production for visually impaired audience members. Information is relayed as a live commentary to a personal headset. These can be collected from a member of our Front of House team 30 minutes before the performance.

Signed/BSL Interpreted Performances

An interpreter stands at the side of the stage and interprets dialogue, songs and sound effects for D/deaf audience members.

Hearing Enhancement

Hearing induction loops are available for live staged performances in the Main Auditorium and Studio Theatre. This service is suitable for hearing aid users.

Captioned Performances

The actors’ words appear on a display unit (or units) placed on the set or next to the stage at the same time as they are spoken or sung.

Relaxed Performances

Our Relaxed Performances are designed for audience members with a range of additional support needs, including PMLD, autism spectrum conditions and anyone who may benefit from a more relaxed environment when visiting the theatre.

Some changes will be made to the presentation of the play and audience members can exit/enter the auditorium as they wish. For more details on how a particular production has been adapted for a relaxed performance, please contact a member of our Box Office team.

Before attending a relaxed performance, you can read our visual guide here.

Young Children Policy

Lanternhouse is a family-friendly venue, but we would recommend that you always check if a performance is suitable for very young children.

Children aged 2 and over must have a paid seat booked for them.

Children under 2 years can sit on your knee.

If a show is specifically made for very young children there may be a charge for tickets. Just call or email boxoffice@lanternhousearts.org, if you are unsure and to avoid disappointment.

We kindly ask that if you are sitting with children under the age of 2, please sit somewhere that is easily accessible, should you need to leave the theatre.

Booster seats are available free of charge.

Baby carriers can be taken into the performance spaces, if a seat is booked and paid for in order to position the carrier.

Prams and buggies are not permitted in the auditorium.
