Arts Development
Nucleus
Nucleus is our vital and exciting contemporary theatre development platform, enabling leading theatre artists to share our resources, helping them develop and explore new ideas, creating works-in-progress leading towards innovative new productions.
Over the past two years the Nucleus programme has developed many projects in collaboration with emerging and established companies including Sweetscar, Dudendance, Lazzi, Teatru De Comedie (Bucharest), Ariel Theatr (Poland), Vox Motus and Gilmour Dance.
CUMBERNAULD YOUTH THEATRE
Cumbernauld Theatre runs a vibrant, exciting and inclusive Youth Theatre for young people from the age of five to eighteen.
Our workshops aim to develop participants’ creative skills and also transferrable skills which will be valuable in the future. We focus on developing confidence, communication and social skills though games, storytelling, role play and improvisation.
As participants advance, our aim is to provide a greater understanding of the many roles involved in putting on a theatre production, to aid Standard Grade and Higher drama students and anyone wishing to pursue a career in theatre. We also explore different styles of theatre, mask work, puppetry and movement.
While our younger groups learn the basics of performance and sometimes present short shows for family and friends at the end of the term, the older groups have the opportunity to be in full productions at Cumbernauld Theatre and also within other venues as parts of festivals such as the National Theatre of Scotland’s exchange programme.
We run eight drama classes and two musical theatre classes from Saturday to Wednesday throughout the school year. We currently have over 250 participants and we are looking forward to growing even bigger!
