Travel on the ferry to Struay to meet one of the best-loved characters in children's books - Katie Morag McColl. She may live on a tiny weather-beaten island, but there's plenty of mischief to get up to, and Katie Morag is always up to something! Two American kids arrive with their dad to find their Scottish roots, but Katie Morag can't believe how spoiled they are - and the visitors can't believe there aren't shopping malls on Struay! But as they become caught up in a treasure trail, Katie Morag and the visitors soon learn that appearances can deceive... Meet Eriska the horse and the Struay cats, stumble across ancient ghosts in spooky places, join in with the songs and help Katie Morag find the answers to the riddles. ""Katie Morag and her chums are swinging pirate cutlasses, bouncing about and leading us in a jolly song about hunting for treasure... A lively, lovingly presented wee show about making new friends and not judging people (or places) by appearances"" Mary Brennan, The Herald ""...graphic storybook sets - post office, pier, croft, castle and ferry leaving for Oban - bring little nods and ripples of approval..."" Joyce McMillan, Scotsman ""...a cheery musical romp performed with bags of energy" " Mark Fisher, Hi-Arts |

"How the hell am I supposed to get heads and bodies for the Poles and the Bunker if I don't kill things?" Meet Frank Cauldhame - a perfectly ordinary sixteen year old serial killer, living on a small island off the north coast. His mother has deserted him, his father measures his own eccentricities on an imperial scale and his brother Eric has been confined to a secure hospital for setting fire to dogs. But when news of Eric's recent escape reaches the island, Frank must prepare the ground for Eric's impending return... As Iain Banks' debut novel, The Wasp Factory caused both storm and sensation on first publication. The compulsive, macabre and darkly powerful world of Frank has enabled The Wasp Factory to become one the acclaimed cult novels in contemporary Scottish literature. www.waspfactorytour.co.uk Cumbernauld Theatre's production of The Wasp Factory is touring across Scotland. Julie Ellison brings together a unique mix of acoustic guitar instrumentals and original songs that challenge the 'girl with guitar' stereotype. Described by Ralph McTell as "a terrific guitarist who also writes great songs", Julie combines elements of ragtime, country blues, rock and classical music in a distinctive and original concert performance. 'Play' magazine: "Fans of anyone from Bert Jansch to Joni Mitchell will find shades of what they like here. The swift, tight finger picking that entwines with the dark tones and emotional edge of her voice invite comparisons like these, but it seems unfair when you think what other special, and highly individual, qualities are at work here." |
