Illustrator for this year’s Christmas show poster/flyer

Cumbernauld Theatre is seeking an illustrator to create a striking image for this year’s Christmas show poster and flyer for Rapunzel.

This is a family friendly show and the image should reflect this by being rich in colour and eye catching for this type of audience.

Please note, we do not use photos of the cast. We prefer to use a single illustration.

Fee: £250

Please state if you can undertake graphic design elements to ensure a finished poster/flyer. A graphic design fee will be negotiated separately.

Illustration must be completed by 27th April and Graphic Design elements (if applicable) should be completed by 4th May.

Cumbernauld Theatre operates as a theatre of equal opportunity. We strive to achieve transparency and fair employment for all creatives in Scottish Theatre as part of our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.

To apply, please send an email to our Marketing Officer Gaby Renehan at with a link to your portfolio.

Closing date: 30th March 2018

A Commission to:

Create An Under 5’s Production This Christmas

Cumbernauld Theatre seeks initial expressions of interest from a Theatre Company/Artistic Team interested in working alongside us to create a magical studio show for Under 5’s this Christmas 2018.

Cumbernauld Theatre has a long-established track record of creating exciting, visual, story-based family theatre on its main-stage each Christmas.   Alongside this production, we also commission a studio show especially for under 5’s.  In recent years we have commissioned Fish&Game, Ellie Street Productions and The Letter J to create a new show in our atmospheric studio theatre.

This small show typically has a cast of 2 actors and lasts approximately 35-40 minutes involving elements of story, interaction, music and adventure.  Performed with the audience on 2-sides/in-the-round, the Production runs for approximately 30 shows, with performances playing to a maximum audience at each show of just 55.

For Christmas 2018, Cumbernauld Theatre is seeking initial expressions of interest from either a Theatre Company or Artistic Team (such as a Writer/Director partnership) to create this year’s show:

Key Dates:

Development: 1 week of development/pre-rehearsal in autumn 2018

Rehearsal Period: 2 weeks beginning 19th November 2018

Technical Week: Monday 3rd December 2018

Opening Performance: Thursday 6th December 2018

Final Performance: Saturday 22nd December 2018

If you would like to be considered for this co-producing opportunity, then please submit your initial expression of interest by emailing us the following:

– Tell us a little bit about you/ your company and the work you’ve recently created for younger audiences…

– Outline the rough idea you have for the show – you don’t need a fully developed show proposal, you only need to say a little about your key characters or story idea or leaping off points if devising.

– Tell us how you’d plan to make the show – who might be involved and in what role/capacity etc. This will be your “core creative team”.

The above information can be presented in any format– you can send your CV’s or web-links if you wish, but in general if you think 2 sides of A4 maximum should cover everything –  that’s the level of detail we need at this initial stage.

This is an open-call, you do not have to be a limited company to apply.   Teams of artists working together informally are welcome to apply. Cumbernauld Theatre advertises all of its opportunities in order to increase transparency in an industry traditionally dominated by closed circle friendship-networks.  Cumbernauld Theatre operates as a theatre of equal opportunity and any roles or jobs  that are required for the production, outside of the core-creative team that are named in the initial application, will also need to be advertised  by open-call so as to ensure fairness and transparency.  We want to see Scottish Theatre operating transparently so that it fully reflects all of the communities we seek to serve.

If you have a current production, or one you’ve made before you think suitable for Christmas that you would like to re-mount then tell us in a bit more detail about that show.  There is no requirement that the production is an entirely new work and it can be based in part, or in full, on remounts or adaptations if you wish (but adaptations of story-books contingent on acquiring rights in the future are not eligible).
