THEATRE JOINS HAITI APPEAL

Cumbernauld Theatre announces they are host to a benefit event to raise money for the Haiti earthquake survivors.

Cumbernauld Theatre is holding a Haiti benefit Night featuring live music from the fantastic band, Kessel on Friday 26th February at 8pm.

Cumbernauld Theatre spokeswoman says;

“Having seen how the British public has reacted and banded together to help Haiti in such a time of need, we felt that it was our responsibility to do something that the local community can be involved in”

“And what better way to raise funds for such a valuable cause, than one of our extremely successful music events.”

“All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Disasters Emergency Committee as they distribute funds amongst set charities that will all be helping the appeal.”

Glasgow band, Kessel, are a five piece contemporary music band with a 70s and 80s pop rock edge performing melodic covers that’s recognisable from popular bands such as Kings of Leon, the Zutons, The Temper Trap, Biffy Clyro and classic bands like The Police and Duran Duran.

Stephen O'Connor (vocals) tells why Kessel wanted to get involved in the Haiti appeal;

“I think when you watch the news, you see pictures of the suffering and devastation the people have to deal with, and you feel helpless.

We can all put our hands in our pocket and give some money, but hopefully by holding an event like this keeps it fresh in people’s minds, makes them realise that it’s going to take years and billions of pounds to give many of the Haitians a ‘normal’ life again.

And you only have to have seen the footage of survivors being pulled from the rubble to see how much hope they had in their eyes for survival. Sounds very deep, but we were all really inspired to help by all the footage on the news.”
