Cumbernauld Theatre, one of Scotland’s oldest and busiest professional producing theatres is moving to a brand new £7m Performing Arts Centre. The new centre will offer state of the art facilities to enable a broad range of high quality cultural programming from across Scotland and around the world. Smart new facilities will offer a commercial quality cinema, a stylish new designer bistro bar, a bright open dance and movement studio, a larger 300 seat auditorium for bigger live shows and a more intimate 100 seat studio theatre and rehearsal space for a creative mix of new dance, music and drama. This new cultural flagship venue will transform arts and entertainment in the North Lanarkshire region.
With strong artistic leadership and a reputation for innovative and community driven arts programming the changing face of Cumbernauld Theatre promises to draw 70,000pa audiences from across North Lanarkshire and Central Scotland to provide a great new centre for people to enjoy the arts. Once open audiences and participants will be able to enjoy over 2,500pa live theatre, music, dance and cinema performances, screenings, workshops and classes.
This exciting new cultural development has already secured £5.5m of investment from North Lanarkshire Council but Cumbernauld Theatre still need to raise £1.5m to complete the £7m package. The support and generosity of the people and businesses of North Lanarkshire is needed to make this project a success.
The funds raised will go towards ensuring young people in the region have access to over 1000 specially programmed performances, classes, screenings and workshops. Every penny raised will contribute to widening engagement, enabling access for people with physical impairment, events and performances for the elderly and creative learning opportunities for the disadvantaged.
Creativity makes the society we live in better.
