Youth Theatre Classes

Weekly Classes

Cumbernauld Theatre has a vibrant, exciting and inclusive Youth Theatre for young people age 3 and over.

We currently offer weekly workshops in DRAMA and MUSICAL THEATRE, aiming to develop performance skills through the use of games, storytelling, role play, improvisation and movement. Our focus is firmly on FUN, but these activities can also help to develop confidence levels, increase social awareness and build teamwork skills.

We run three terms of classes per year, and each term we work within a theme to explore imagination and creative responses; devising and developing work in a live working theatre. There are opportunities throughout the year to take part in informal ‘sharings’ for friends and family, rehearse a more structured performance for the whole community, or take part in holiday activity programmes – not to mention attending theatre productions, festivals and events across the country!

Whether you are looking to make new friends or are considering a career in theatre, Cumbernauld Youth Theatre has something to suit!

New term starting 25th April – Booking Soon!

Easter Activities

Week 1

This Easter, Cumbernauld Theatre will host a celebration of puppetry with a programme of tales for our younger audiences. Before each show, we will be offering workshops for ages 4-7 to come and explore imagined lands and bring our own stories to life.

Timetable

  • Woodland Creatures

Come and explore our mystical forest and discover some of the wildlife hiding amongst the rushes!

  • Snow White

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all? Help bring some of the more traditional fairy tale characters to life in this story of good versus evil!

  • Goldilocks and the Three Bears

If you go down to the woods today, you’re sure of a big surprise – Goldilocks is making lunch for the three bears! Do you think they’ll like pickles with their porridge? Come and find out!

  • Rapunzel

Just how long is Rapunzel’s hair? How wicked is the witch? And can the prince really climb that high? If you can answer these conundrums, we need your help!

Each workshop will last two hours, and be jam-packed with creative content – games and storytelling, arts and crafts – we may even have time for a glass of juice! All this for just £5 per session – and each one will be different, so you can attend as many as you like for a fun-filled week!

Please note that children should be collected at 12pm, but families staying for the performance are welcome to bring a packed lunch and use our family friendly café area, complete with a hot drinks machine for the grown-ups!

Tickets for each show available separately. Please call Box Office to book now!

Week 2

timetable 2

This Easter you can tread the boards at Cumbernauld Theatre by signing up for our week-long performance academy. From Monday 13th April – Friday 17th April, two courses will be running – one for those age 7-11 (P4-P7), and one for ages 11+ (S1 and over). By the end of the week, you will have devised, created, rehearsed and performed a show for your friends and family!

“Through careful manipulation and good storytelling, you can get everybody to clap at the same time, to hopefully laugh at the same time, and to be afraid at the same time. But you can’t get everybody to interpret the result in the same Way. And that’s thrilling to know – that everybody will see it differently.”                                                          Steven Spielberg

Working alongside other young performers and specialist theatre makers, this five-day course will be intense, creative, challenging but fun. At Cumbernauld Theatre you can meet new people and make friends for life.

Performance Academy courses cost just £25 for the whole week, 10am – 4pm daily. The final performance will take place at 6pm on Friday 17th April 2015. ALL tickets £3. Call the Box Office now to book your place!
